Time to get rid of home decor items. And no, that does not mean you can go shopping to get new stuff. First, I want you to tackle the seasonal items that you keep in storage. If you don’t absolutely love it, then get rid of it.
Part two is addressing what you have laying around the house. Clutter is a source of stress, but some folks don’t realize that visual decor clutter is also just as stressful. For those of you with Pinterest, I want you to look at your interiors/decor boards if you have them. Are you noticing a recurring theme with the images that speak to you? My board is filled with a lot of neutral colored spaces with large focal pieces of art, very little decorative items and greenery.
There is nothing wrong with not having the mantle decked out. Your bookcases do not need to be filled with tchotchkes. Every counter space in your house does not need a fancy vignette.
I went through my entire house and got rid of SOOOO much decor and I honestly feel amazing. It’s hard not to get sucked into the mindset of “more is more”. The blogosphere is packed full of home tours and some folks have a bunch of decorative items in immaculate homes complete with vacuum lines. If it works for them, that’s awesome. I honestly have a very difficult time keeping up with daily house work and having less stuff makes my home instantly look more tidy than it is.
I’ve decided that I need a couple more plants, but I definitely don’t need any more home decor items. From here on out, I’ll have to get rid of something old if I want anything new.
Time to get rid of all that decor that doesn’t speak to you. Is this one going to be hard for you?
