Hey, hey! Well, I’m having mixed emotions about Snap Happy Friday, but Rome wasn’t built in a day. Neither was my business or this blog. The shutterbugs will come when they’re ready. I can feel it.
This week I sent my oldest off to her first day of school. Quite the mix of emotions. A lot of you sent your kids off to school the last couple of weeks also. I’m soooo not looking forward to when V graduates high school. Yes, I do think that far ahead. I’ve already got two graduation gifts planned for her. Both sentimental.
So, although there weren’t a lot of entries. Picking a favorite was easy for me. Bethany from More Than A Page is a teacher. Not only is she an awesome photographer, she’s been entrusted to shape little minds. I’m sure back to school for her means something completely different than to the parents dropping their kids off.

You also need to pay Zayda from Falling in Light a visit as well as Marisa from The Dragonfly Whispers My Name. Zayda is a fellow Navy spouse (GO NAVY!) and chronicles her life in Korea in beautiful photos. She’s even helped me in a bind by taking the ring sling pictures since the hubby was coming home after sun down. Marisa is an AMAZING macro photographer. She’s the main reason I just spent big bucks on a macro lens. Lady has talent!
On to this week’s theme, “Fly”. I had originally planned on a shot with my husband throwing our chunkster up in the air. The same shot I take for families with babies old enough to be tossed, but not so big that the dad has a hard time getting the child enough hang time for a good capture. I changed my mind because
A) I needed to do something different. That’s the whole point of this “Snap Happy Friday” shin dig.
B) I overheard my husband talking to our daughter about how she’s one step closer to “flying away”.
I’m not even sure he knew I was listening. At 6am on the morning of our daughter’s first day of school he was sitting on the couch with V. He was talking to her about school and how going to school means that she was learning how to fly and that someday she would fly from the nest when she was ready. It could not have been more perfect.
I decided that we needed to go out to the field and do some “fly” photos with the two of them, but then something happened. My little guy got a crazy fever. We’ve been to the ER and have been trying to keep him comfortable these last couple days, so I wasn’t able to snap the photo I had envisioned. I dug through my old photos. I knew I had to have one with one of the kids in the air. Right…..?

The focus is slightly off and I had to do a black and white conversion. So many distractions in the background and some icky looking grass. I’ll have to do a makeup photo of what I’m envisioning for a personal project.
Rummaging around for a “fly” image led me to one of my favorite photos from the same evening the above photo was taken. It was any other Friday night. We went out to dinner at a local “beef & leaf” and were walking home when I said we had to stop simply because the light was too beautiful. This image is an image I see daily. At different places. At different times. But it’s always the same. I love it.
So next week’s “theme” will be back lighting. It can be a tricky one, just remember the golden hour (or magic hour), but you don’t have to limit yourself to sunlight. *hint hint*
I’m excited to see your “fly” images linked up this week. Snap happy, friends!
