Living just fourty yards from a 10 lane highway (seriously) for the last two years has left me dying to rub my bare feet in green grass. Nothing quite like stepping out onto your balcony and seeing a dumpster to your right and a busy highway to your left. Never taking a yard for granted again. We will have enough space for an outdoor seating/living area as well as a dining area. I’m imagining lots of black, white and weathered wood with bits of green and blue.
I’m not known for my green thumb, so you’ll probably see a lot of succulents and other sun loving plants in our backyard. The less watering involved, the better. We had a lot of crassula ovata (jade tree) and portulacaria afra (small leaf jade) when we lived in Monterey and they were super easy to take care off. I’m leaning towards more potted plants this time around.
Lots of lighting and lanterns will be necessary because we plan on soaking up as much time outside as possible. I’m loving that umbrella with lights from World Market. I’m hoping it’s still on sale by the time we move in.
Actually sitting outside at night with a glass of wine sounds really nice right now. Baby boy is still on the mend and sleep has been lacking lately. I’ll settle for coffee.
I also really like the price and style of the World Market sectional (not sponsored btw), but it looks like stock is limited. Insert sad face. If you see something similar for a good price, let me know. I will be stalking all the local stores in search of this sectional. I have to have it before their outdoor sale ends.
P has big plans for the outdoor dining table. Since being introduced to Korean bbq, he HAS to have a custom tabletop grill. We bought the Korean bbq grill specifically designed for tabletops here and it’s already in route to California. The only thing left is to build a table. I LOVE this farmhouse table plan from Ana White. I would need to alter some of the design to accommodate the built in grill, but it’s pretty much exactly what I’m looking for.
Also, if you haven’t tried Korean bbq, you must.
It’s been two years since we’ve been able to properly grill outdoors. I’ve been researching washer and dryers and P has been looking for the perfect grill. Please tell me you’ve been grilling outside so I can live vicariously through you as I watch the endless line of buses go by.
