Feeling like scum? Having stomach grumbles? Do your muscles ache or is your skin looking a little dull? Time for a little detox bath my friends. Don’t worry, these bath salts won’t be turning you into a “zombie” running the streets of Miami.
The mister plays a lot of hockey. Nearly ten hours of ice and Canadian ball hockey a week leaves behind sore muscles and an aching body. Taking a detox bath helps aches and pains as well as help flush toxins out of your system.
Epsom salt detox baths have been used for ages to help cleanse the body. Not everyone has the time or access to a sauna to sweat out the toxins, but most of us have a tub and 15 minutes to spare.
2 cups sea salt
2 cups epsom salt
4 cups baking soda
2 TBLS Ground Ginger
Optional Bath Add-Ons:
1 TBLS Glycerin (skin softener)
Several drops of essential oil (aromatherapy)
1. Draw a hot bath and add 1 cup of the salt mixture and any of the bath add ons you’d like.
2. Soak for at least 15 minutes.
3. Drink lots of water/fluids for the next 24 hours.
You’ll be sweating out the toxins, so it’s important that you replenish the fluids in your body by drinking lots of water. You’ll also be releasing toxins through other body fluids, so drink lots of water to flush all that nastiness out. Not drinking enough water after a detox bath will leave you dehydrated and feeling terrible (trust me).
Also, learn from my mistakes. I read somewhere on the net about adding essential oils directly into epsom salt. PLEASE for the love of whomever you may or may not worship, DON’T DO IT! The mind searing headache that lasted nearly 24 hrs after mixing the two together is still etched into my mind. Don’t do it. Ever. Especially with lavender essential oil. Just don’t. I feel sick just thinking about it. Blah!
***Although, I’d love to use this detox bath soak at this very moment, I can’t right now because I’m nursing and could possibly flush toxins out through my milk. If you’re pregnant, nursing, have heart problems, high blood pressure or are diabetic, hot water epsom salt baths are not for you and you should consult a doctor before starting any health regimen. And please don’t use this detox bath with children.***
