There is a reason why this blog has been collecting dust lately and it mostly deals with people being sucky. Not my awesome loyal readers, but scrapper sites and individuals subscribing for the sole purpose of stealing and spamming. NOT COOL!
I guess that comes with the territory when you put things on the web, but I still think it stinks. I created this blog to share with family and increase the SEO of my business. Not so someone else could take things I’ve written and photographed to claim as there own. Again, NOT COOL!
The part that bothers me the most is that images of my children are being used by someone else. I’ve decided to go through and hide personal posts. I still want to share with family and friends, especially since we live on the other side of the world, but this will have to be done solely via Skype. This is a blessing and a curse. Blessing in the fact we get more one on one video time, but scheduling calls around work schedules and the ridiculous time difference is quite the task. Thankfully, it’s worth the work and this is one positive from the generally sucky situation.
Besides some posts disappearing, there will also be some changes to the user experience on the blog. I’ve noticed some plugins contributed to the increase in spammers, so those will go away and sadly change the user friendliness of the site. I’ve also gotten rid of the “Subscribe via email” option until I can get this situation under control and have changed the privacy settings on most of my social media accounts. I have also decided that personal posts are going away completely and to focus solely on crafting, design & photography. I’m sorry if these changes are an inconvenience to you, but protecting my family is my top priority.
I know these jerks are going to find a way around stealing content and spamming the heck out of everyone. Sad that people make a living stealing someone else’s intellectual property. All I can do is make a few changes and hope it stops. C’est la vie.
Anyone else deal with this sort of thing? What did you do about it?
