My last post I talked about craving some structure in my life as well as my blog. I also mentioned that we were going to take more time away as a family. Our time in Monterey is coming to an end since we’ve officially received orders to Korea this winter. For all you non-military folks, that means we got the official documents saying my husband’s next job will be in Korea. So we want to take mini-vacations whenever we can.
Last month alone we were in San Luis Obispo, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. We also snuck in a trip to Hearst Castle and lunch with college friends in Santa Cruz. The month of May has been a different story though. We’ve been home, doing nothing (mostly)…. everyday. I’ve been sick beyond belief because…. I’M PREGNANT!

We’ve known since the beginning of April and thankfully we did most of our traveling when I was still feeling pretty good minus some major fatigue. I was really sick for a few days in mid April, but thought I lucked out and that it was over. I was sooooo wrong. This is nothing like my pregnancy with Vanessa. I got sick once with her and mostly dealt with low blood pressure symptoms, but only when I showered.
Symptoms So Far:

Cravings (things that don’t come back up):
Thin Crust Veggie Pizzas
Boxed Mac & Cheese
Toasted English Muffins
Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
Most Italian Food

Anything that hasn’t stayed down in the past.
I figured it was about time I let you in on the good news. It’s still very early in the pregnancy (I’m 9 weeks) and I know a lot can happen in these first few fragile months. I couldn’t keep this secret after a visit to my OB Monday and an ultrasound showing a strong heartbeat of 180bpm, a tiny baby measuring to date with tiny hands and feet, and everything else looking good so far. The OB says my morning sickness is actually a good sign that the pregnancy hormones are strong and doing their job.
In regards to my previous high risk pregnancy and birth, the odds of low fluids again are very low, but the odds of me going in to pre-term labor again are high. My OB is glad that I didn’t go into labor until 34 weeks vs. 26 weeks, so my chances of having a full term baby are very good with the help of progesterone shots. The tentative plan is to start the shots at 20 weeks after the big gender and genetic scan. No NICU’s or hospital bed rest are the goals this time around!
We’re still trying to work out the logistics of me moving overseas during my third trimester. The military requires family members to undergo physicals and get shots when you move to Korea, but we’ve heard several different things about the process when you’re pregnant. So we’re not sure if I’m leaving with Philip at around 32 weeks (which would be easier) or if I’ll be leaving 3-4 months AFTER the baby is born (which means traveling solo with 2 kids).
So there you have it! The reason I’ve been missing and the blog being a ghost town is because I’ve been growing a tiny baby. I don’t see me feeling better anytime soon, but I’ll do my best to update, answer emails and your comments when I’m having my better days. Thanks for understanding!
