I often sometimes get these crazy sudden urges to do craft projects late at night. Sometimes I’ll get these brilliant ideas with items I already own, which means practically free. This makes me smile. This adorable wooden box works great for storing mementos or jewelry.
This is an easy DIY project, you’ll need:
Wooden Box (you can find one here)
First, you need to choose your font and whatever words or initials that you’d like to be printed. I used “Monterey” for my font. I trimmed my paper after I printed to make sure my initial would be nice and centered.
I applied a thin layer of modge podge on my clean tile and smoothed out all the bubbles. Then put two thin layers on top, allowing an hour between coats. Then I spray painted my box heirloom white, but kept the inside the original wood color. Thin coat of spray poly and called it good. I applied some Gorilla Glue to make sure my tile would stay put in the tile inset.
Put the tile in AFTER the paint and poly, just makes your life easier. I often work so quickly that I don’t think. I put the tile in first and had to quickly pry it out before the glue dried. *oops*
