Honestly, I rarely dedicate an entire post about specific products or items I come across. This book is different. I’m not getting paid to talk about it; I just want you to know about it, especially parents.
Back in January, I started Sort Save Splurge, which is basically a 30-day simplifying/decluttering challenge. I break it down by category and you sort through and downsize possessions everyday. I started it because I really needed to downsize after our last move. I’d say I did a pretty great job, but I was still CONSTANTLY cleaning.
Three weeks ago I came across The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up (<–affiliate link) by Marie Kondo. Her approach to decluttering is very similar to my own, but it brought in the factor of whether an item sparked joy or not. I discovered that I was keeping things that I loved (or once loved), but didn’t necessarily bring me joy. I’m not sure if that makes sense… because it sounds a little crazy.
There are a few parts of the book that made me do a little side eye. Specifically, thanking objects for their hard work, talking to your rooms, etc. If you can get past that, this book is gold.
This is a really quick read and I highly recommend it to EVERYONE, tons of clutter or not. The book made me realize that the reason why I love traveling so incredibly much is because I have just what I need, I bring clothes I really love to wear and I’m spending quality time with people I care about. More experiences, less stuff.
If you’re feeling like your life is constantly spent picking up stuff and that you literally have zero free time to do things you actually enjoy, please give (the kindle) version of this book a go.
