We’re on day two of sort save splurge and it’s time to concur the kitchen cupboards, drawers and cabinets. This will probably be a little time consuming if you have a large kitchen. You’ve been warned.
Go through each cabinet, one by one. Get rid of anything you honestly have not used in a year. Have a waffle maker that you never use or hot air popcorn maker that’s never seen the light of day? Wedding gifts that were never used? I’m getting rid of three appliances we never use and I honestly haven’t even taken one of them out of the original box. I understand the guilt of getting rid of a gift, but if it just sits in your cabinets, then it’s not really doing you any good to keep it for the sake of guilt. Am I right?
I’m guilty of hoarding bowls and coffee mugs….. as in we have well over 30 of each. I don’t even have a legitimate excuse for it. I’m still deciding which will need to go. Giving myself a full 24 hrs to think about it because most of the bowls are props. I know, I know. A lot of mugs are from my husband’s various jobs in the Navy or inherited from him grandpa, so I’m going to put those in a safe place for now.
I pulled our nice dinnerware from the cabinets and stored them elsewhere. If we don’t have 20 plates in the cupboards, then there won’t be 20 plates waiting for me to wash. Same goes for pots, pans, bowls, cups, utensils and kid plates. We seriously had at least 20 kid plates….. for two kids. Hangs head in shame. I’m limiting it to just 8 dinner plates, 4 small plates, 8 bowls, and 8 cups.
Don’t forget to wipe down the insides and outsides of your cabinets and drawers before putting everything back.
Totally tally for me is three small kitchen appliances, two drink dispensers, two platters, two pots, a bent cupcake tower and soooo many plates, bowls and cups. They fill up two large boxes, so I’m counting that as two items on my tracking sheet. Now I just need to drop them off at Goodwill.
I had to do some serious downsizing when we moved to San Diego because our current kitchen is half the size of our last one. I’m surprised and pretty darn proud that I was able to get rid of more stuff.
