My 2014 word of the year was “simplify” and I can honestly say that I did a pretty good job with it. It was the core in almost everything that we did. I took a step back from work to focus on my family, got rid of house clutter and I even simplified the blog. My 2015 word of the year is “present”. I want to be present for my family (turn off the distractions) and quit dreaming/planning/thinking about the future and start doing something about it now.
I’m sure many other creatives agree that dreaming is a big part of who they are. Honestly, it can be insanely distracting, just ask my husband. I have at least ten different ideas about things I want to do or make on any given day. I usually write it down in one of many notebooks and forget about all those big dreams/plans/thoughts. I’m going to do something about it now.
I sat down and wrote exactly what I wanted to do (at this present moment) with this little corner of the internet I call mine.
52 Family Friendly Meals – One recipe per week. Who else agrees that half the stuff you see on Pinterest is not quick and easy like they claim? I honestly don’t have hours to saute this, fry that, blend this, brown that and so on while my kids cause mayhem. I have a hard enough time making sure we don’t visit the ER (again) now that the little one thinks he’s a flying squirrel; adding “burn the house down because of dinner” to the list of fails is not on my to do list. 52 family friendly meals. It’s happening.
52 Free Printables – Okay, this one may be a stretch for me, but I’ve got a bit of a head start since I make a bunch of my own personal printables to keep things organized. I recently started a binder with tabs that say “home, heart, finances, meals, and blog” and it’s filled with printables I’ve made to make my own life easier. I was getting sick of writing things down in notebooks and trying to remember where I wrote it or just flat out forgetting. Daydreamer problems. My binder system works like a charm and I can’t wait to share. 52 free printables. Ack! What am I getting myself into?
10 Room Makeovers –I’m so excited. I’m so excited. I’m so scared. Jessie Spano has nothing on me when I start decorating plans. I have lots of room “stuff” going on at one time right now. I basically try to do too much at one time and end up flailing around because of stress and leave half finished projects in my wake. (Note to self: Don’t do too much.) I’m going to shift my focus to updating just one room per month and sharing all the little projects along the way. Our San Diego rental is going to be a legit home…. until we move again. Rinse and repeat.
Sort Save Splurge – I hate the word splurge btw. It’s up there with the “m” word food bloggers like to use, but alliteration is my jam. This is my big blog project for the year. What is it? It’s a 30 day challenge to simplify your home, so you can save up for what you really want. The rules are that you can’t buy anything other than groceries and necessities for 30 days (avoid Target at all costs) and you “earn” money for every bag/box/heap of junk you get rid of. I’ll share more details along with the printables tomorrow. You in?
What about your personal life? Well, I’ve got some personal projects going on that I probably won’t share on the blog. I’ve been working on a very special Project 52 of my kids, complete with milestones and funny quotes that would make you snort your coffee. Most people start their photography projects at the beginning of the year, but I started awhile ago. I’ve been taking this whole “present” thing seriously already. I’m also making it a point to stop saying “no” so much and start doing more fun/spur of the moment stuff with my kids, even if it involves running through sprinklers in pajamas at 7am. Hold me.
Have any resolutions for 2015 or have a word of the year? I want to hear all about them!
